Ukens smakebit: The Gift
Den ukentlige utfordringen hos Flukten fra virkeligheten: del ett par setninger fra en bok du leser nå på bloggen din.
Ukens smakebit er fra s. 68 i The Gift, første bok i Pellinor-kvartetten, av Alison Croggon.
"When are you going to wake up?" said Cadvan. "Yes, there are things that you must learn. But there are other things which sleep inside you already, as part of your Gift, your inheritance. One of them is the ability to understand the speech of beasts."
"Yes, girl. Do you have ears of cloth?"
Mearad felt a new kind of fear stirring within her, a fear of herself, and it pricked her anger. She spoke low, afraid of waking the beast, but with dark fury.
"That's witchspeak," she said. "You never told me anything like that. It's not true!"
Cadvan didn't react to her anger. "Mearad, the worst thing you can do is deny your own powers," he said. "If you have been kept ignorant, that is not your fault. You no longer have that excuse."
